Self Assessment Readiness Tool™ for Midwives

Midwives provide maternity and newborn care, from pregnancy through child birth to postpartum. Midwives are fully responsible for making clinical decisions and managing care within their scope of practice.

This tool is designed to help you understand the requirements for employment in Canada. It describes what you are required to know and to do. It outlines the competencies, knowledge and skills that you must have to work in Canada. 

This tool contains 2 parts:

Part 1 - Overview of the Canadian Model of Midwifery Practice
Part 2 - Competency Assessment

This tool is meant to be a guide for your personal use. Your answers to questions will not be recorded or evaluated by anyone other than you. This tool does not provide any assurance of your ability to obtain employment in Canada. It will not be used by any regulatory bodies in Canada to determine your eligibility for registration.  There is no link between completion of this tool and formal licensure or certification.
